Enable Hidden Administrator Account on Windows 7 & 8

So you want to enable the hidden Administrator account on your Windows 7 and 8 PC. This account is prepared by Windows Operating System during the installation time but it is hidden and can't be accessed by users until the user manually enable it.

Have you seen while in our previous tutorial on Rearm Windows 7 & 8 to extend license to one year, we needed to open cmd with the administrator privileges even we are using an account with admin rights. This causes User Account Control to ask for confirmation while performing some tasks like Applications.

With this administrator you will get elevated privileges and you'll be able to perform any task without any problems. You can use this account for troubleshooting purposes and when you are not getting enough rights to perform some task. Many times, users give some viruses or Malware access to the computer and after that the user will not able to perform some task which is not allowed by or disables after granting Malware access to the PC.

Now, let's know the trick and very easy process to enable the hidden administrator account. Follow the following steps carefully.
  • Press Windows key + R to open the RUN.
  • Search for lusrmgr.msc from the Run to open Local Users and Groups manager. Type lusrmgr.msc in the given search filed in the Run and press OK.
  • After that, you'll see the following Window. Click on the User in the left panel.

  • Now, in right side on the Name tab, double click on the Administrator.
  • In the following Administrator Properties Window uncheck the Account is Disabled.

  • Click on Apply and than OK.
  • That's All! Now you have enabled the hidden Admin Account on your PC.
Note: Make sure to hide this account after finishing your task. If you want to leave it enabled than make sure to protect it with a password.

The above method to enable Administrator Account will only work on Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise versions of Windows. If your OS version is different than use the following method.
  1. Press Window + R and search for secpol.msc in the Run to open the Local Policy Editor.
  2. In the next Window, navigate to Local Policies > Security Options.
  3. In the right side, double click and open the Accounts: Administrator Account Status.
  4. Now you can easily enable or disable the Administrator account.
  5. Log Off to see the changes. Done!
If you're getting difficulties understanding the above method than see the below given method to enable hidden Administrator Account using Command Prompt.
  • If you're using Windows 7 than go to Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  • Right click on the Command Prompt and click on Run as Administrator.
  • Type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter button.

  • After that, you'll see a message that the command have been completed successfully.
If you want to disable the built-in administrator account on your Windows than type net user administrator /active:no command in the Command Prompt (Don't forget to Run the Command Prompt as Administrator).
